​Perched atop the cliffs overlooking the Pacific Ocean, the Price Funeral Home has watched the tides roll in for more than a century and a half.

Originally constructed in 1867 by Ezra Price as a private family estate, the home was built after a physician advised his wife, Edith, to seek the restorative benefits of sea air. Drawn by the rugged beauty of the Oregon coastline, Price chose this remote stretch of land overlooking the water, with the ocean on one side, and forestry on the other.

Following a period of financial hardship, the property was transformed by Ezra's son, William Price, who studied mortuary science and converted the family residence into a funeral home in the late nineteenth century. Remarkably, much of the original structure remains intact today.

Built in the Victorian Gothic style, the manor features steep gables, soaring windows, intricate woodwork, and hand-carved architectural details crafted by local artisans. Original mahogany staircases, stained glass panels, decorative plaster ceilings, and imported brass fixtures can still be found throughout the home, each preserved by generations of the Price family.

More than a century after Ezra Price laid its foundation, the Price Funeral Home was officially granted historical property status. Inspired by its growing legacy, Peggy Price began collecting photographs, letters, and family records, opening the estate to visitors through guided historical tours that ensured the stories behind the walls would never be forgotten.

Today, visitors will discover more than the funeral home's public rooms. Beyond the foyer lie private family quarters, a greenhouse overlooking the sea, a small chapel nestled among the trees, a carriage house, hidden pathways, and countless objects collected over generations. Some have obvious stories attached to them. Others do not.

​

The estate has remained in continuous family ownership for over 150 years. Today, Phillip and Laura Price reside here with their twins, Calla and Finn, serving as both caretakers of the property and custodians of its history.

​

As you explore, you may notice that certain rooms feel untouched by time.

That is not entirely accidental.
