5 easy ways to be more positive!

“Watch your thoughts; they become words. Watch your words; they become actions. Watch your actions; they become habit. Watch your habits; they become character. Watch your character; it becomes your destiny.” ― Lao Tzu

Whatever you fill your mind with, that's the kind of person you are going to become. If you focus on negativity... guess what? You'll be negative.

We all fall into the trap, though, of complaining, or gossiping. It's a easy path to slide down. The important thing is to catch ourselves and climb back up.

Here are some easy things to do to make your mind a more sunshiney place.

Walking the grand-pup in Hawaii!

1. Ditch the crabs. I saw this on If you put a crab in a bucket, it will easily climb out. But if you put two crabs in a bucket, they will pull each other down every time one tries to climb out. Don't surround yourself with crabs. They will pull you down into negativity. The old adage- "Birds of a feather flock together" is generally true.

2. Don't practice negative self-talk. I'm really bad about this one. I'll say- Ugh, I'm so bad at ____. Or Man, I suck at _____. If I say those words, I'm going to believe them subconsciously. It's just the way our brain works. So, instead of being negative about yourself, try being positive. Remind yourself of what you're good at. I'm a great mom. I'm so good at multi-tasking. I'm awesome at lists! You get the picture.

3. Be grateful. Focusing on what you're happy about, what you're thankful about, will put you in a better frame of mind. For instance, I just flew to Hawaii to see my son for deployment. The flight was longgggggg, my tailbone was sore..... I'm a homebody.... every time I caught myself complaining in my head, I reminded myself of a few things. I get to see my boy and hug him before he deploys. I get to go to Hawaii, a place I've never been. I get to spend quality family time. Focus on the good.

4. Do things that make you feel happy. If you like lists, make great list. Color-code them, organize them, etc. If you like to walk, carve out some time to do it. Listen to music, dance in the kitchen, spend quality time with your kids.

5. Unplug.

This one is big. Take some time every day to leave your phone on the kitchen counter, and don't check it. Be present with your kids as you read a book or they tell you about their day. Don't talk to them while you're also answering a text. That makes you feel like a crappy mom, which totally negates the whole... trying to be positive thing. :) Not being connected 24/7 will make you feel better. I promise.
